Ohhhhh field trip day! I haven't been on a field trip for a very very long time. I was excited to go, at first; then I realized that I wasn't going just to enjoy the aquarium I had to be in charge of 3 very very excited 3rd graders. Not only that but field trips are not just for fun anymore you must have learning moments while you are out exploring the world. Talk about a downer...who really has time to write down answers to questions when there are hundreds of different kinds of sea life all around in giant tanks. And as a teacher ummm no one told me the rules on how to corral 3 very excited 3rd graders. I should count my lucky stars that I only had 3. I will have you know that not once did I have to tell anyone to get their hands out of the tanks, or "no johnny, you can't eat the fish even though you love sushi!" I also never had to wrestle a child away from a shark or pry a crab claw off a kids finger. We were incident free! Oh and I didn't loose any of them, although it would have been really easy to do so. I count that as a huge success. We had lunch outside the aquarium (I think at this point I need to remind you that I live in Arizona. Outside at 12:00 ='s HOT! There was a tiny bit of shade but only for a few students us teachers had to suck it up and pretend like we weren't sweating like while hogs. I have to admit my pretzels weren't really cutting it today. I wanted the snack box the kids got for lunch. It had a bunch of grab bag snacky things. It was like a pinata but with food instead of candy. Oh well, not for me I get pretzels! Did I mention we were outside eating....in the SUN at NOON! (ok pity party over.) Back to the school we went. Oh did I mention that I get motion sick...oh I didn't? Well, I do. Try having motion sickness on a bus full of kids and a bus driver that thinks he is a nascar driver for buses. Not cool man, really not cool. Thankfully I was able to keep my 5 pretzels down that I ate for lunch (slight exaggeration..it was closer to 10.)
No rest for the wicked; or is it weary? Hmmm I will go with wicked. I had to dump the kids off at the parent pick up and head in to set up for my presentation. Yep I had a presentation on a field trip day. Whose brillant idea was that....definitely not mine. All went well despite my frazzled brain and my pounding headache.
Angela this is just the beginning. You have a lot more to look forward to....or hide from; you choose!
Love Angela
